WANO Young Generation

An initiative enabling young employees working in our member organisations to network and share information about the nuclear industry with their peers.

YG Group at the WANO BGM 2015

WANO Young Generation (WANO YG) is a network for collaborating with existing young nuclear organisations. It will empower these groups - nationally, regionally and internationally - by working together with existing YG organisations, such as the IYNC and the ENS YGN to coordinate activities.

In addition to cooperating with the existing YG organisations, WANO YG intends to offer specific activities to young professionals working for WANO members, including, for example, participation in peer reviews (PRs) or member support missions (MSMs) taking place at their nuclear power facility.

Changes in the nuclear workforce population and the decision of many countries to start a nuclear programme are a reality in all regions around the world. The need to attract young talent and retain knowledge in the nuclear industry is crucial and can pose challenges for WANO members. For this reason, WANO has started this new initiative to help its members to make this transition. The WANO YG mission is to create future leaders for safe and reliable operation of nuclear power plants, through networking, professional development, and knowledge transfer within the WANO membership.

WANO YG Objectives
  • To familiarise young professionals with WANO and its activities
  • To promote knowledge transfer between experienced workers and young professionals
  • To facilitate networking between young nuclear professionals
  • To increase professional development
  • To stimulate entrepreneurship within companies and discussions with senior leaders
WANO Scholarships

Through the framework of the WANO YG, WANO is awarding scholarships to attend the World Nuclear University (WNU). Scholarships are reserved for young professionals who meet the following criteria. They must:

  • Meet the requirements of the WNU

  • Work for a WANO member

These scholarships were awarded to three professionals in 2016, and three more have been awarded in 2017. Previously, WANO awarded four scholarships to students who were pursuing a career in the nuclear industry - these scholarships were celebrated during the 2015 BGM, held in Toronto, Canada.
