Professional and technical development

One way to prevent accidents is to help staff increase their skills and knowledge so they can deal with potential safety issues before they become problems.
Through WANO, nuclear energy workers have access to a host of workshops, conferences, seminars, expert meetings and training courses to hone their skills and deepen their knowledge.
Our Professional and Technical Development Programme is built upon the premise that we can learn from our peers’ experiences. The focus is on improving plant performance in areas such as operations, maintenance and engineering. Specific topics are also selected on the basis of member requests, identified needs and industry trends.
Whether it’s a regional workshop or a worldwide Plant Managers Conference these educational forums also provide the ideal setting for nuclear professionals to establish relationships with colleagues from around the word.
Programme Highlights
- In 2011, WANO regional centres organised 14 workshops and three seminars, in addition to two small-group CEO meetings, one expert meeting, two site manager meetings and one training meeting.
- Nearly 600 international nuclear executives attended WANO’s 2011 Biennial General Meeting in Shenzhen, China.
