Tom Mitchell
Governing Board Chairman

Tom Mitchell is President & Chief Executive Officer, Ontario Power Generation (OPG). Mr Mitchell was appointed to his current position in April 2009. Previously he was Chief Nuclear Officer responsible for providing support to the OPG nuclear stations. He has also served as Site Vice President, and Senior Vice President, Pickering B. He joined OPG in 2002 as Vice President, Nuclear Operations.

Mr Mitchell has over 30 years of nuclear experience. He has held the position of Vice President of the Assistance Division of the Institute of Nuclear Power Operations (INPO). During his career at INPO he managed the Radiological Protection, Plant Analysis and Engineering Support departments.
He has also served as the Deputy Director of the WANO Atlanta Centre.

Other positions he has held include Manager of Operations Support, Director of Site Engineering and Site Vice President at Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station.

He holds a master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from George Washington University and a bachelor’s degree in Nuclear Engineering from Cornell University.

David Farr
Regional Director

Mr. Farr was named Director of the WANO Atlanta Centre in January 2009. In addition to overseeing the Centre’s operations, he serves as an exit representative for peer reviews. Mr. Farr previously worked for the Insitute of Nuclear Power Operations (INPO). He joined INPO in January 2000 and became Vice President in October 2007. Previous positions included Director of Plant Evaluations and Organizational Systems, Manager of Engineering and Configuration Management and Team Manager.

Prior to joining INPO, he was employed by Commonwealth Edison Company. Mr. Farr has also participated in an on-loan assignment as Plant Manager of Sizewell B Power Station in the United Kingdom. He received senior reactor operator certifications from Commonwealth Edison Company for BWR and PWR sites.

Mr. Farr holds a Bachelor’s Degree in nuclear engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology and a Master’s Degree in management from Northwestern University.
