Jos Bongers

Governing Board Chairman

Mr. Bongers is the Managing Director of EPZ, a private Dutch electricity generation company which owns and operates Borssele NPP, the only nuclear power plant in the Netherlands.

Before his 2001 appointment as Managing Director, Mr. Bongers held several posts in EPZ’s nuclear and conventional power plant organisations. He is a Non Executive Member of the Board of KSG/GfS, the German Nuclear Power Plant Simulator Centre in Essen (Germany), and Chairman of the Assembly of CEO’s of the Dutch nuclear industry.

He is also a member of the Independent Nuclear Safety Committee of NPP Doel of Electrabel in Belgium. Mr. Bongers participated in the first WANO Corporate Peer Review ever held in Europe and was team leader in the second corporate Peer Review in Europe, as well as its follow up. He holds a Master’s Degree in Aeronautical Engineering.

Ignacio Araluce

Regional Director

Mr. Araluce became WANO Paris Centre Director in July of 2006. Prior to that, he was Deputy Head of the Project Management Unit for decommissioning Bohunice NPP. From 2003-2005, he was the General Manager of Spanish Nuclear Technology Development S.L., where he was responsible for a number of areas, including management of nuclear safety projects in central-east European countries, onsite technical assistance and management of projects for plant safety improvements, modernisation, backfitting and dismantling.

In 1982, Mr. Araluce became Operation Manager of Almaraz NPP, where he held a number of positions, including Plant Director. He has a degree in Nuclear Physics from Madrid Complutense University (1978).
