Global Communications Leaders Convene in London for Influential Forum
The Forum serves as a space for sharing knowledge, experience, and proven approaches to building effective communications functions.
The 3rd Global Nuclear Communications Forum (GNCF), hosted by the World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO), concluded this week in London, marking one more step in advancing the role of communication within the global nuclear industry. Held from 4-5 June at WANO’s headquarters, the Forum brought together 45 senior communicators, thought leaders, and industry stakeholders from 15 countries, building on foundations laid in previous years and explored new areas in effective and impactful communication.
“This year’s forum made clear that communications is not just a support function – it’s a strategic driver of progress across the nuclear sector,” said Dr Naoki Chigusa, CEO of WANO. “We’re seeing communications play a pivotal role in driving performance at operating plants and facilities worldwide. Communications also plays a vital role in enabling plant restarts, life extensions, new builds, and the deployment of advanced technologies. The GNCF in close alignment with the Communications Industry Working Group, is helping to turn global dialogue into practical tools that benefit all operators – regardless of where they are in their nuclear journey.”
Discussions focused on harnessing digital innovation, responding to stakeholder expectations, and navigating the shifting communication landscape both internally and externally. Sessions explored how to move forward communications functions alongside leadership engagement and the broader narrative of nuclear, moving toward more proactive storytelling and reputation building, grounded in trust, transparency, and adaptability.
The Forum serves as a space for sharing knowledge, experience, and proven approaches to building effective communications functions. By strengthening connections between nuclear communicators globally, the GNCF supports the industry’s growing demands through collaboration, practical tools, and the exchange of best practices – wherever members are on their nuclear journey. To ensure ideas shared at the Forum translate into lasting impact, the Communications Industry Working Group (COM I-WG) provides a practical mechanism for implementation. By bringing together communicators from across the WANO membership, the COM I-WG helps shape industry wide tools and guidance – enabling nuclear operators, regardless of their stage of development, to strengthen their communications capability in line with global best practices.
