Kalinin leverages ePM to deliver high performance
The Kalinin nuclear power plant’s operations meets high standards in the field of nuclear energy.
Kalinin nuclear power plant, owned and operated by Rosenergoatom, is located around 200 kilometres Northwest of Moscow. Functional experts from WANO Moscow Centre completed a visit to the plant last October. The expert group was headed by Andrey Prokhodtsev, head of WANO Moscow Centre’s functional and technical support department.
The visit to the nuclear power plant was a continuation of the Action for Excellence industry initiative and specifically the process implementation for enhanced Performance Monitoring (ePM). Pilot testing of the process previously took place at several Russian nuclear power plants and were considered successful.
The ePM process is used by the industry worldwide for the early identification of gaps in the field of safety, reliability and efficiency of nuclear power plant performance. Furthermore, it also provides solutions and all necessary support to nuclear power plants for the timely resolution of any problematic issues.
During the project, the expert group studied seven key Kalinin station performance areas, including organisational efficiency, operation, maintenance and repair, engineering support and many others. All the reviewed nuclear enterprise performance areas have a high level. The Kalinin nuclear power plant’s operations meets high standards in the field of nuclear energy. Moving forwards, the focus will be to ensure the plant maintains these high levels sustainably, so it achieves or exceeds the five industry goals by 2030 and beyond.
