Leadership: Setting Direction during Challenging Times

Welcome to the latest issue of Inside WANO.

WANO hosted its first virtual Site Vice Presidents’ and Plant Managers’ Conference on 29 and 30 September. Due to the pandemic, it was organised as an online conference and it took place over two days and at two different times to cater for members in different time zones. It was a great success with over 250 members in attendance. The theme of the conference was ‘Leadership: Setting Direction during Challenging Times’, with a focus on how strong leadership at all levels can positively impact human performance.

I’d like to personally thank all those who attended the conference, and in particular those members who have shared valuable experience about their challenges and ways to keep the world’s nuclear power plants safe, reliable, and productive.

This edition of Inside WANO features several articles that cover key topics delivered by speakers at the event. Furthermore, for those members who could not attend and would like to view a full recording of the conference, it is available on WANO’s member website.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your continued collaboration, sharing of information and mutual support over recent months. We are all in this together. It remains a very challenging time, and WANO’s immediate focus is working closely with members to support them in maintaining high levels of nuclear safety and reliability at their plants.

I hope you enjoy this issue of Inside WANO.
