WANO’s integrated suite of services are available for all member plants and facilities worldwide. Our services provide each plant and facility with comprehensive assistance throughout their entire operational lifecycle to help them achieve high levels of sustainable performance.

Peer reviews occur every four years and focus on comparing performance against global industry standards of excellence to identify gaps, while enhanced Performance Monitoring (ePM) continuously tracks plant progress, while offering further support to members as needed.

Through peer reviews, members gain global insights on safe and reliable plant operation, thereby enhancing their own performance. Similar principles apply to corporate peer reviews, which examine how decisions taken at a member’s headquarters can affect nuclear safety across the company.

Under ePM, members regularly submit plant data to WANO experts, who analyse the data and provide actionable insights with the help of AI tools. The result is typically a quarterly view of plant performance that includes a prediction of the trend of performance. This helps members identify early signs of performance issues and take prompt actions to address the trend. It also helps identify which units need assistance so WANO can offer tailored support to help those plants.

Peer review and ePM work together to identify areas for improvement and determine the necessary support to meet safety and reliability standards effectively.

WANO Member Interaction Cycle

This infographic explains how WANO will interact with each member plant or facility over the four-year cycle between each peer review.

How it works

Under this model, WANO will assess each plant or facility’s ePM results in a Collegial Review Meeting (CRM) to ensure gaps have been correctly and clearly identified. This will ensure the plant benefits from the most appropriate engagement category – based solely on its performance. Afterwards, in the Executive Review Meeting, WANO’s experts will communicate the results to their counterparts in the plant.

Peer review will focus on delivering an evaluation and assessment, and ePM will track each plant’s progress and provide it with support as required. With regular monitoring, each member gains an accurate picture of the current performance and likely trajectory of every plant or facility.

WANO then provides a graded level of support to individual members, which will be based on each plant’s performance and specific needs.

WANO services fully integrate with each other to continuously improve the industry standards of excellence as the industry evolves. By working closely with WANO, each member plant or facility will elevate and achieve sustainable high levels of performance.
