WANO showcases expertise to leaders of new nuclear projects worldwide
The WANO Café was organised specifically for industry leaders with a focus on the safe and reliable start-up of new units.
Senior stakeholders planning new nuclear projects or building new units worldwide attended a special invitation-only event called the WANO Café, in Abu Dhabi on Friday 27 September.
For the first time, WANO organised this dedicated session for new members and new entrants before its BGM. The WANO Café was organised specifically for industry leaders with a focus on the safe and reliable start-up of new units. Guests took the opportunity to build connections with decision-makers in the industry, transfer knowledge and better understand the support WANO and its members provide.
Mohamed Al Hammadi, WANO President and Chief Executive Officer of ENEC, Zhengyu Zhou, General Manager of CNNP and Alexander Shutikov, Director General at Rosenergoatom, all spoke to delegates and explained the benefits of WANO membership and encouraged newcomer nations to join the Association early. Necati Yamaç, Chief Executive Offiicer of TÜNAŞ, also spoke about the new unit support that TÜNAŞ is receiving from WANO.
Since 2015, WANO has conducted 160 missions to 60 new units worldwide, facilitating a smooth start and transition to full operation.
Naoki Chigusa, WANO CEO, stated: “I am delighted to see such a good level of interaction for the WANO Café – the first event of its kind. Our key message to these leaders is to ensure they take advantage of our expertise – join and work with us before construction starts – to start up safely and reliably. Our expertise helps all types of organisations at all times of a new nuclear project. Whether it is in the pre-construction phase, undergoing construction, or construction is complete and the new unit is nearing operational start-up. The Café is a key platform to help deliver our strategy to influence the evolution of global nuclear power, as outlined in UNITY.”
