Win a Scholarship to the 2025 WNU Summer Institute in China
To be eligible for the scholarship you must be a woman, currently be working for a WANO member and meet the WNU Summer Institute eligibility criteria.
This year’s scholarship, sponsored by WANO, is open to women that work for a WANO member or that are on a secondment at a WANO regional centre or office. The scholarship is only open for women this year. This is to promote diversity in the industry. The winner will have the opportunity to attend the WNU SI to develop their leadership capabilities, communication skills, international network and be a driver for innovation.
To win a scholarship to the WNU Summer Institute, which takes place in China from 1 June to 5 July 2025 and includes a technical tour, please answer in English to the following question in under 800 words:
“Why do you want to go to the 2025 WNU Summer Institute and how will you improve nuclear safety with the knowledge that you will gain from being there?”
The winner will receive a scholarship worth approximately £18,200 for the course, which covers:
- Course materials and mentorship
- Meals for the duration of the Summer Institute
- Ensuite accommodation during the academic programme and twin room during technical tour
- Technical tours
Please note that the competition is only open to women, who either work for a member of WANO or on a WANO secondment.

- A signed and dated reference letter from your employer / manager recommending you for the course.
To be eligible for the scholarship you must be a woman, currently be working for a WANO member and meet the WNU Summer Institute eligibility criteria, which is as follows:
- Currently employed in the nuclear sector, with at least 4 years of relevant work experience
- Advanced university degree (master’s degree or an equivalent 4 years of work experience) in nuclear energy sciences related field
- 2 reference letters demonstrating leadership potential as well as professional or academic excellence
- Advanced English language skills, to be able to participate in lively discussions. For non-native English speakers, an English certificate is required.
