WANO hosts its Fifteenth Biennial General Meeting in London: Generating a Safer Future Together

At its fifteenth Biennial General Meeting (BGM), held in London, United Kingdom from 20-22 October 2019, members of the World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO) convened to discuss the challenges the industry faces over the coming years, under the conference theme of '30 years of WANO: Generating a Safer Future Together'.

Ingemar Engkvist appointed Chief Executive Officer of WANO

WANO has appointed Ingemar Engkvist, the current Director of the WANO Paris Centre, as Chief Executive Officer. The appointment was made at the organisation’s Governing Board meeting in Prague on 20 June 2019. Ingemar will formally replace current WANO CEO, Peter Prozesky, on 1 January 2019.

WANO marks its 30 year anniversary

WANO has evolved significantly from its inaugural meeting in Moscow on 15 May 1989. It now represents more than 120 members who operate more than 430 civil nuclear power reactors around the world.

WANO and World Nuclear Association launch new partnership to enhance the performance of the world’s nuclear industry

The World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO) and World Nuclear Association have signed a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), as the basis of a partnership that aims to enhance the performance of nuclear power plants worldwide. Under the agreement, both organisations will work together to discuss challenges and identify solutions to deliver better outcomes for the industry in four key areas; emergency response support, export controls, the nuclear supply chain and capacity building.

WANO calls on new nuclear entrants to engage earlier to receive maximum support from global industry

WANO has called on new entrants to the nuclear industry to engage with it earlier in the construction and commissioning process. By working closely with the WANO from an early stage in a new nuclear construction project, new entrants will benefit from the maximum support to enable them to achieve an on-time, safe and reliable start-up of their new unit(s).

WANO conducts a record number of member support missions in 2017

In 2017, WANO completed the most number of member support missions for members within a calendar year - demonstrating the service’s growing popularity.
