On 6 August 2012, Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power Company (KHNP), which operates the Kori Nuclear Power Plants, received approval from the Korean government to restart Unit 1. Its operation was suspended on 13 March due to the non-reporting of the Unit 1 Station Blackout (SBO) in February.
The RCS (Reactor Coolant System) heat-up of Unit 1 started at 10:00 am on 8 August, and the plant reached criticality at 3:00 am and was connected to the grid at 11:09 am on 10 August. The plant reached full power on 11 August.
WANO continues to support KHNP in cooperative efforts to maximise the safety and reliability of its nuclear power plants.
