WANO appoints Mr. Kim Keeyoung as Director General of Tokyo Centre


New-TC-Director.jpgWANO has appointed Mr. Kim Keeyoung as Director General of Tokyo Centre. Mr. Kim will formally replace current Director General Dr. Naoki Chigusa, on 1 January 2023.

Mr. Kim stated: “I am delighted to be appointed as WANO Tokyo Center’s new Director General, and I am looking forward to working closely with Tokyo Center’s members, other regional centers and WANO Tokyo Centre’s staff to ensure WANO continues to support the industry as effectively as possible during my tenure.”

 “For the past 8 years, WANO Tokyo Centre has achieved a remarkable growth in both size and quality thanks to the dedication of Dr. Chigusa and strong support from our members. Keeping the momentum, I will devote myself entirely to enhancing the safety and operational performance of our members’ nuclear fleets, building on improved staff capacity as well as trust from the management of our members.”

Since November 2021, Mr. Kim has been KHNP Head Office Safety Department Vice President, in this role, he is overseeing the safety performance of 24 KHNP plant units. Before this Mr. Kim was the Director General of KHNP’s Human Resource Development (HRD) Institute, in this role he was responsible for the HRD across the company.

As a certified SRO, Mr. Kim has gained more than 30 years of experience in nuclear operation, training and safety oversight including serving as a shift manager and a senior manager at KHNP head office. From 2018 to 2020, he was also seconded as Tokyo Centre’s Deputy Director General.

Mr. Kim has a master’s degree in Material Science and Engineering from Pusan National University. He also earned a bachelor’s degree in Nuclear Engineering from Kyunghee University. Mr. Kim also has a Korea Associate Coach Certificate (KCA) which he obtained in 2022.
